A recent trip up to Dimboola allowed me some access to some pollution free sky and an opportunity to try out some Star Trail photography.
I tried on two nights. I learned a lot the first night – there is a lot of work in post processing these images.
Taken on a 5D Mark III with the 16-35 f/2.8 L II USM lens, I had around 30 x 4 minute exposures at ISO 800 with some nice silhouetted trees in the foreground. A single car over the ~ 3 hours came up and back the road I was next to, illuminating the tank and trees just nicely.
I took the Star Trails themselves using a TriggerTrap connector and my iPhone. I still need to play more with this.
In any case – enjoy the Wimmera Trails.
